Difficulty: 1 out of 5
Terrain: Very flat and exposed, with almost no shade or natural shelter.
Landscape: Open, fertile, endless agricultural and sunflower fields.
Time: 5.5–6.5 hours
Alternate Transportation:There are bus stops at every town on this route.

Sahagún 10.5 km from San Nicolás)Major town with multiple bars, cafés, bakeries, and grocery stores.
Good spot for a substantial breakfast or to resupply provisions.
Bercianos del Real Camino (~17.5 km from San Nicolás):
Smaller village featuring local bars/albergues offering drinks and quick bites.
Seasonal mobile food trucks or donativo snack setups are also occasionally present along this stretch of the meseta.

Hotel Castillo Ranero: 58€. Great stay and food, but know it is a truck stop on the outskirts of El Burgo Ranero.
Hostal El Peregrino: 30€-45€
Personal recommendation: Hotel Castillo Ranero is very comfortable. If you stay the night, I recommend paying a little more to stay in the pension or hotel.
Nearby essentials: This is a truck stop with the hotel on the second floor and a large café with a terrace on the first floor. There is a small shop attached.

When you pass through El Burgo Ranero, there is a small café and a tiny storefront grocery shop for pilgrims. The owner is wonderful!
The route is isolated. It's very open, and I did not see any pilgrims the entire day.
In late May, check the stork nest in the church tower.

I was thankful to be at a truck stop. I was hiking the Camino Francés in April and May of 2025 when there was a total blackout. The truck stop had a generator, so I was luckier than my fellow pilgrims. -That Eva
