Camino Francés Elevation to O Cebriero stay the night in La Leguna

Difficulty: Hard
Terrain: First 20 km (12.4 miles)is a very easy gradual climb. The Mountain Wall: Last 8 km (5 miles) from Las Herrerías to O Cebreiro climbs steeply over dirt and stone trails.(2900feet).It is one of the highest climbs on the Camino Frances.

Trabadelo (Km 9.7): Cafes, bars, and water fountains.
La Portela de Valcarce (Km 13.8) & Ambasmestas (Km 14.9): Small village shops and bars.
Vega de Valcarce (Km 16.5): Great place for a meal, grocery items, and water.
Ruitelán (Km 18.6): Bars and albergues with refreshments.
Las Herrerías (Km 20.1) / Hospital (Km 20.9): The Last stop before vertical climb. Take enough water and food.
La Faba (Km 23.5): Steep mountain village with a small cafe/bar and albergue. Critical to top off water before the final push. Many pilgrims stay the night to split the climb.
La Laguna de Castilla (Km 25.8): Final tiny hamlet before the summit featuring hot food, drinks, and a public fountain. Food is wonderful!
O Cebreiro (Km 27.8): Stage end with multiple restaurants, hostales, and shops.

Split the Stage: Many pilgrims split this stage and stay the night in Las Leguna or Faba .
Water Warning: Water fountains are sparse on the final 8 km dirt track, so fill up completely and take snacks before leaving Las Herrerías. You can also ride a horse from Hererrias to O Cebriero.
Weather Check: The summit sits at 1,300 meters (4,265 feet) and frequently experiences dense fog, heavy rain, or high winds.

Las Lagunas has just one albergue — no choice to make, nothing to weigh. Simplicity in solo travel, like simplicity in life, has a way of grounding you. Tonight, quite literally — I'm sitting here with nothing but mountain views in every direction. The climb today — the one I'd been quietly dreading — turned out easier than I expected. — That Eva!
