Camino Frances Stage 2: Orisson-Burguete

Camino Francés Elevation by Stage

Roncesvalles has one large albergue that is a monastery. Because I stayed the night in Borda, I walked to Burguette, a quaint village 2.5 Kilometers past Roncesvalles.

  Alternative Transportation: available buses and taxis to Orisson.

• Food, Water & Stops

  • Limited stops. Plan ahead—there is a food truck, but nothing more.

  • Carry enough water (at least 1.5–2L)

  • Cafés/bar: Food truck before pass

  • Water: Food truck (if open) and Roncesvalles.

• Where to Stay in Burguete

  • Low Price: Lorentx Alterpea – 17–36 Euros (recommended)

  • Mid Price: Casa Rural Don Juarregui – 35–50 Euros

  • High Price: Hotel Rural Loiza – 70–87 Euros

• Tips for Future Pilgrims

  • Take your time walking through this part of the Camino. It is by far my most memorable day.

  • Be careful as you leave Burguete; the Camino takes a sharp right turn halfway through the town.

  • This stage will be a little easier than yesterday’s Stage 1.

  • Trekking poles are highly recommended. The descent is very steep, and the valley can be slippery with mud. My poles have saved me from falling on slippery rocks and mud countless times!

  • Alternative transportation: available bus and taxi to the next stage

JOURNAL

Looking back, this day was my favorite day on the Camino. The views over the Pyrenees are unbelievably beautiful. The Albergue at Roncesvalles is large and crowded. I decided to walk a few more kilometers to Burguete and stayed the night at Albergue Lorentx Alterpea. - That Eva!
