JOURNAL
The fog was thick this morning, and Foncebadón appeared and disappeared in it as I walked alone. Soon, I would see the Cruz de Ferro. It wasn't clear to me what I was feeling. My thoughts had been pushed aside for so long that I had made myself numb to what happened. Some things in life can never be made right. Everything you know can shift in the space of a single breath. I had carried a stone for Brian, my son. I knelt, placed it at the foot of the cross, and said his name quietly. The moment the stone left my hand, he wasn't so far away — the memories came forward, one step after another, the way they do when you finally stop and let them. - That Eva!
